THE CRAZY MIND (Part - 2)

Jonathan was finding it quite challenging to get to understand the functioning of the MIND, because unlike the brain structure there was not enough explanation available about the latter but only some bits and pieces of information like thought processes, conscious and subconscious mind etc. He thought the best way was to go to the wise old man living at the edge of the forest for guidance, without which he felt it would be beyond his capacity to understand the intricacies of the human mind.

So he once again headed back into the woods to meet his favourite guru. He openly submitted to the wise man that he was researching on human abilities but was having problems conceptualizing the functioning of the mind after he had managed to understand the human brain structure and its essential functions. He was aware that the old man had a deep understanding of human life and some knowledge about science, so he raised the following question related to Einstein.

Jonathan: “How did Einstein visualize the heavenly forces? His discovery although was based on the mathematical equations also involved the origin of cosmic forces like mass(matter), gravitational force(g) Sun’s energy(light), time(t) and space(energy)?”

Old man: “Einstein undoubtedly had extraordinary intelligence, but what is more astonishing which, perhaps many of us have not given much thought was his ability to visualize the laws of the Universe by using the ‘power of his mind.’ It appears he had an incredible mind to imagine the complexities of nature without which he could not have done such an astonishing visualization about the Universe.”

The old man continued, “the brain as we all know only will register messages and information based on what our five senses perceive. Our sensory organs are primarily used to understand everything by looking or hearing or touching or smelling or tasting different objects that have some physical existence. So it could be said that what Einstein perceived was beyond the ordinary human understanding that is something which lies beyond the scope of human’s sensual perceptions.”

Jonathan: “That means Einstein could transcend nature like a spiritual person.”

The old man replied, “Perhaps you are right.” It was found later on, after Einstein’s death, that he had only a regular sized brain which everyone has, meaning there nothing extraordinary found inside his head. However, the only difference the neuroscientists found was that the genius had used a little bit additional portion of his brain. But the biggest question that arises out these finding is whether it is possible to think like or make discoveries like Einstein by merely using an additional portion of one’s brain?  The logical answer would be ‘No’.

A lot of scientific research is going on with Einstein’s brain, which has been preserved for over 60 years, to find out the hidden secrets of this great man’s intellectual abilities. But then it is next to impossible to know all  about the experiential learning of a genius because of the most critical and sensitive part of Albert Einstein, the ‘MIND’ is not accessible now.”

Jonathan: “You mean, it would not be wrong to hypothesize that it is not the usage of a person’s abundantly available  brain cells that matters but using the power of one’s ‘mind’ has much more significance.”

He continued, “Sir if I have your permission then I would like to ask a personal question to you?’

Old man: (smiled) “Go ahead, you have my permission.”

Jonathan: Sir, “You also possess extraordinary knowledge as well as memory power. How did you get this ability and who was your Guru?”

Old man: (he paused for a little while). “He closed his eyes and the moment he opened it he said, “My Atma(soul) is my Guru because I am always true to my conscience and I make sure that I follow my inner voice and without any prejudice.”

He continued, “ As far as knowledge is concerned I learned it from everyone, mostly from the street, but my values were taught to me by an elderly lady who was my guardian. As far as I can remember I lived with her from my childhood until the age of 16 when she died. The old lady had no one to give her company or provide any help, and she lived alone selling tea and some snacks from her small brick house before I arrived. Her house had clay tiles with some places covered with coconuts branches because she did not have enough money to replace the roof tiles, if it broke, for months at a stretch.

The old lady told me several stories including her own life, and at that young age as a small boy, I could not understand the full meaning of what she said except the difficulties she went through and the sacrifices that were done by her living frugally. However, one thing I understood was the value system of being true to oneself beside not hurting or cheating others just for the sake of self-benefit. By being true to oneself I mean not having any duplicity in one’s character or trying to pretend to be another person that you are not.

Jonathan: Yes Sir, “I understand your nature because you are so different in thinking and your understanding of life in general and you are also extremely helpful to people and even to strangers like me. Sir, did you get a chance to go to school or college?”

Old man: Luckily I was born in Kerala where schooling was free. A doctor who used to visit the old lady was kind enough to take care of me when she died.

The doctor paid the fees for me to go to the college for two years where I studied science, but then after that, I stopped my college and started assisting him. However, I was always fascinated by science, and I used to buy some old books and read them whenever I had spare time. (.................................To be Continued)
