Old man: “Thus, you can easily imagine that ‘intuitive mind’ which was the most active for the primitive man, was a heightened activity during the beginning stage of the evolution of mind and therefore apparently this was all the time the highest level of consciousness or awareness during olden times.
“But over the years and particularly as of today, the ‘intuitive mind’ has become most dormant or perhaps inactive and has submerged at the bottom of our consciousness and am sure you can easily understand why this happened. However, there are few exceptions because there are some people who can bring it into the conscious activity level at a certain point in time. So luckily for me, it appears this would have taken place because of my exceptional circumstances during the course of my childhood upbringing.”
Jonathan”: “Oh my God. This is a remarkable revelation to me because no one else has explained it to me with so much of clarity about the intuitive mind. You are nothing less than a genius.”
Old man: “My dear son you are mistaken, I am no genius. This is only a case of uncluttered or uncontaminated thinking mind because I have continuous deliberation going on inside me with minimum or no bias whenever I go through some experience or get struck in an event. Most of us carry some concepts and ideas that are told to us by our parents or relatives or friends during our childhood which luckily for me had never happened to me because of my social upbringing. Therefore I had always a very open mind because so many people use to come to the tea shop and my doctor’s clinic and every person had an entirely different view point, and I was never fixated in my ideas, and so it only broadened my thinking ability. For instance, after I had become an adult if at all there was any misunderstanding with my boss or some else I would always think about the incident during the night and try to figure what I had said which could have sparked the misunderstanding. I always tried to figure out what went wrong and what was my contribution to the situation because I always believed that it is always a 50:50 game in any kind of interaction and both sides have to equally given credit or blamed for what had happened between two individuals. After all, it is a two-way transaction between two people in a social set up, and if there is no perfect equilibrium (50-50) between the two individuals there are going to be difficulties.
“ As everything has advantages and disadvantages and this is the biggest take away due to our so called civilized or modern social structure of human race whose fundamental interest is to give protection to families, especially children in our traditional society which we call family. Therefore, an average child’s thinking ability to a great extent has perhaps become biased and straight jacketed due to their social upbringing.”
Jonathan: “You mean to say that the ‘intuitive mind’ has now got submerged at the bottom of the conscious level. I think we should call this as subconscious mind’ instead of unconscious mind because it could be brought to the surface if one needs to do it. Sir, can you please tell me something more about the other aspects of mind.”
Old man: “ So it is evident that exploration and experimentation would always involve physical activities and therefore our four limbs and others sense organs were put to extensive use by our human ancestors. This explorative nature would have made people venture all over the Earth using their limbs efficiently. People fulfilled their human desires and necessities of life by eating, drinking and also gradually developed their ‘sensory’ perceptions by exploring the surroundings on a day to day basis.
“Humans also learned to sustain life a bit longer unlike other species because they could protect themselves better than other species by feeding the body regularly and by eating food according to their choices that were available to them and by living in safety which gave them and their families additional protection.
“ The tangible experience of the mind through ‘sensory organs’ by looking at different things in different terrains by touching, smelling and tasting gave him significant advantages to his ‘intuitive brain’ which already had records of several old incidents. Thus he started storing a lot of data in his brain memory cells, and so his memory system improved significantly because of his higher protein intake, and this gave a tremendous edge over other species.
“The sensory perceptions were qualities of other species also, but a man had a significant advantage because he could explore much beyond the boundaries unlike other species by efficient use of his limbs travelling larger distance which enabled him to efficiently handle situations in a much superior way compared to other species.
“The ‘analytical thinking brain’ was continually working in the background but at a much smaller scale because everything was new to him and he was experimenting and exploring the surroundings all the time, and he developed his skill and knowledge in different phases over several thousands of years.
‘“The feeling mind’ was perhaps the third stage of the conscious development that had taken place with human species who initially thought only about efficiency and effectiveness because of his constant adventuring physical habits. He was doing everything to protect himself as well as his family but then at some stage, he started realizing and made concessions to safeguard others, especially females and small children of other tribes who he thought are no threats to him, unlike male counterparts. He always needed the women and their company for procreation so that he could strengthen his tribe to get additional physical help for his continuous explorations.
“During ancient times the aggressive man always eliminated the male members of other tribes who were threats. But then gradually after several thousands of years, compassionate qualities have gained ground although selfishness is still a very dominant part of human nature which is anyways one of the very basic and primary qualities of all species, including animals even to this day.
“So, all the recent innovations, discoveries, and theories are all the real outcome of rational and analytical ‘thinking mind’ which I think was the most important aspect of human brain development. But the key to these new developments through of human intellect is because of ‘conscious’ efforts that he has been putting all through the hundreds of thousands of years on his various journeys and explorations.
“As you can very well visualize without man putting his mind to everything and being conscious of what he does, nothing progressive would have happened all these years. Therefore, there is no doubt that our ‘consciousness’ plays a far more significant role in human life without which all these bits of intelligence would not have emerged.
“Whether we talk about ‘God’ consciousness or material oriented ‘scientific’ consciousness, without collective or universal consciousness in operation, no intelligence or development would prevail in the long run for the human race.”
