LIFE IS A STREAM

"Life has to be meaningful which we all know is a true statement".

From the scientific point of view the meaning of life is 'activity' and alternatively it is known as 'Karma' if you give life a spiritual dimension.

Thus life could be compared with that of a stream. The human race has undoubtedly considered 'river' as a great source of inspiration as it gives freshness to living and non-living things, provides food, helps agriculture, farming, trade and commerce.. However it was the Indian philosophy which is the only one that gave river a spiritual dimension and worshiped her equivalent to God!

All of us know that a big river initially starts as a small brook and then becomes a big stream and then touches the life of so many people in different places from various walks of life. Although people talk about perennial rivers but finally one day it has to die like the river “Sarawati” of the 5,000 year old Indus valley civilization did perish because the once upon a time a great river finally dried and vanished without any trace.

Our life also starts similarly like that of a river from an infant stage when we begin our life’s journey trying to understand and find our own path to grow further and go beyond trying to reach our own potential. During this journey like the river we happen to touch many places, serve the purpose and lives of many people, go through rough terrain and also the beautiful green pastures and finally perish.

The only minor difference is that the river begins its journey from the top of a hill or a mountain and flows downwards to reach the ocean but in our case we start our journey from downwards and try to raise our potential aiming high and then as they say the soul departs to the top and if not anything else but definitely combine with the atoms of the Universe what we call space or energy or Earth's soil which is obviously part of this Universal energy. Therefore the stream is top to down where as human life is bottom to the top!

As the river flows, during its course it gets used by so many people for many purposes and gets contaminated in the process and also hosts lot of species living inside it which is also the same with humans who host several living cells and bacteria inside their body and get contaminated in many ways and are useful for serving the human race during their life time.

If the river has an obstruction on the way either it breaks it to force itself through or finds an alternative path to find its way out. Similar is the case with us, we humans do the same thing like what the river does.

In ancient days especially in India people use to and are still worshiping great rivers like Ganga, Godavari, Krishna and Kaveri and it has great spiritual significance perhaps due to its great utility and due to the fact that water is considered the ‘elixir’ of life. So is the case with great human personalities like Jesus, Buddha, Krishna, Shridi Saibaba, Vivekananda, Ramana who are all worshiped for their great services to humankind and the knowledge they have imparted to human beings during last several thousand years in the chapter of the civilization of humankind.

The river does not bother who is using the water and welcomes everyone and anyone irrespective of whosoever it is or whichever be the species, the size or the weight or caste or creed and allows everyone to enjoy what it has got to offer till it dies. Similar has been the case of all the above personalities that lived on this Earth because such superior souls have given selflessly all that they had without seeing who the other person or species it was.

The above parallel between a stream and a human being is drawn just to point out that as a human we have great potential like that of a great river but it all depends on how the individual thinks what he or she is capable of doing and what is the purpose of his or her life after being born as a human being on Earth.
