Modern science has definitions like 'living' and 'non-living' things. According to science, a 'living' thing either has single cell or multiple cells with some biochemical activity because of which there are metabolic changes.
Whereas 'non-living' things are physical, visible or non-visible entities that are perceptible because most of them are materials matters which are distinguishable that exists in different forms like compounds, elements, macro-molecules, simple molecules, atoms, protons, electrons and other no charge sub-atomic particles like neutrons, neutrinos etc.
There are also visible and non-visible forces like electromagnetic radiations(one of them being light), gravitational forces etc., which are some of the energy forces that are identified by modern science that are not very obvious but could be only experienced.
"According to the great scientist Albert Einstein, every visible physical matter in this universe is controlled by some extra-ordinary non-visible forces".
"Though 'non-living' physical matters may not have biochemical activities but constant movements like rotations & vibrations of every matter that exists in this universe does prove the existence of some extraordinary force".

All the scientists have assumed that everything on this universe has been produced from the 'Big Bang' a process during which substantial energy and gases were spit out along with heat which is also an important energy form.
HOWEVER THE AUTOMATIC PROCESS OF EVOLUTION OF THE UNIVERSE AS WELL AS THE EVOLUTION OF LIVING THINGS DO THROW MANY QUESTIONS REGARDING THE ORIGIN OF ITS SOURCE AND THIS WILL ALWAYS REMAIN UNANSWERED WHICH THEREFORE WILL CONTINUE AS A MYSTERY FOREVER.

Similarly ‘human conscience’ could be also considered as some kind of mysterious force which although dwelling on a platform called 'mind' but has been seen as a powerful energy that could drive each person to reach the destination or attain position beyond one's imagination.
Therefore ‘human conscience’ could be considered the most developed amongst all living species that we know of.
It is a fact that as a normal person one would become aware of what one is doing, irrespective of whether it is right or wrong. Yes, there could be some delay on certain occasions regarding awareness but the fact remains it will hit us hard at some point in time in our life.
Unlike the animal species which roam around looking for food or animals that are captured which obey their masters because they are served food regularly, though in the past human beings have also gone through similar circumstances, humans have been able to change at some stage and this has happened because of the 'human conscience' that has developed with certain virtues which have not occurred with 'other living species'.

Therefore we could make a statement that 'human conscience' has made great strides in development, both physical as well as mental, but then to pass through the intricacies of life which demands living a time span of 60-70 years or perhaps more, to be able to come out of ignorance one essentially requires the blessings of the (divine) invisible forces which show us light to enhance wisdom and provide guidance for a righteous living. The so-called development either could take place right from the birth or through one's association with ethical people who have themselves developed great virtues.
As a human being, normally a child begins to become aware of things one at a time by trial and error method and also gradually develops greater ability to learn from others. But every person over a timeline, from a child to teenager, is usually exposed to certain fixed boundaries of information, some of them are due to their own choice and others which become a binding on each person due to circumstances or events that take place beyond one's control.
A simple example is of a person born in the desert and therefore does not have access to a river and will get an opportunity to learn swimming only when the living circumstances for this person will change.
"ALTHOUGH IT IS NOT POSSIBLE FOR ANY PERSON TO HAVE CONTROL ON THEIR TIME OR PLACE OF BIRTH, OR FOR THAT MATTER, EVENTS THAT TAKE PLACE IN ONE'S LIFE BUT IT IS ONE'S ACTIONS THAT ULTIMATELY DEVELOPS INTO GREAT VIRTUES".
Though knowledge is not a limiting factor either to the young or the old but then experiences do put limitations on a person. Nevertheless, passage of time is the greatest teacher to humankind because time is one of the major factors for the acquisition of experiences. Moreover 'knowledge' requires a source but then experiences arise out of situations that are not always comfortable or likable because every situation will not turn out comfortable and is likely to have some hurdles, difficulties, and discomforts.
BUT HOWEVER, EXPERIENCES ARE NEVER FINITE AND ALSO HAVE GREAT VARIABLES BECAUSE IT IS ALWAYS A CONTINUOUS PROCESS.
No wonder with aging a person develops a Higher level of 'CONSCIENCE'- meaning- the ability to measure or distinguish the right and the wrong on his own terms rather than what the past has taught him or her which usually one learned from social upbringing. A simple example is of a person turning in to a vegetarian after several years of his or her experiences with non-vegetarian food habits!
Therefore it is only human beings who have the ability to differentiate and reason out 'what is right and which is wrong' and this awareness could be considered as one of the major factors behind the reasons for the claim with regard to the substantial development of 'human conscience' compared to any other species on this planet.
Although nature has played a great role in human development, one being the evolution of the brain in terms of its size but besides that, there are many other invisible forces which we are not fully aware have also created the discerning changes.
"The above statement could be validated only through the fact that humans possess 'beastly qualities' on one hand but on the other hand the incredible creative abilities, saintly(godly) qualities etc., make human species truly unique".
The other major striking differentiator is the 'qualitative variations' that we find in some human beings right after his or her birth which is not very common in other species.
Also, it is the most fascinating factor if one considers the extraordinary mental development that takes place in a person after one goes through so much turmoil in life due to association with people as well passage through several events that one is made to go through, most of it, that are not his or her choice.

Therefore it is not only the size the brain of the human but also the cumulative experiences this species goes through which brings into the forefront 'human conscience' as the most valuable gift to humankind.
Hence thoughts and emotions could be considered common among several living species including human species but what makes the latter special is his or her ability to bring about significant changes in behavior over time and also make choices for his or her own path which gives the greatest credibility to what we call “consciousness”, though universal in nature, but then truly unique to this species called 'human beings'.
